#14  Qualified Wedding Officiants

When I came to Kansas, I registered with the State which required a copy of my ordination papers and denominational status. Missouri granted reciprocity. I married a friend in Minnesota a few years ago; for that single wedding. I had to go through a much more through vetting in person. California has been very lax. I do not know the current legal situations except that I continue to perform marriages and receive acknowledgments from Kansas and Missouri for each wedding I perform.

Your status would be best determined by checking with the appropriate clerk in the state in which the marriage is to be performed.

In addition to the services I offer (see http://www.cres.org/work/WeddingsUnions.htm), Clergy Services (#10 on the web page cited) might be available. I certainly can recommend Roger Coleman of Clergy Services.

Because of the personal relationship which involves you in this situation, you might consider presiding at the ceremony with a co-officiant actually signing and returning the legal papers.

Thanks for your thoughtfulness and best wishes and congratulations to the happy couple!

Vern
